Nacho Update

If you follow our social media, you may remember Nacho. Nacho is a cat we were asked to help, who was living outside, but not feral. A wonderful neighbor agreed to temporarily foster him while we arranged for his veterinary care. He has since been neutered, vaccinated, and fully vetted, including testing to ensure he’s healthy.

Nacho then moved to a foster home where we planned for him to stay until he got adopted, but it quickly became clear that this handsome boy has a very “spicy” personality. Because of that, we transferred him to another cat foster who could handle his shenanigans!

The good news: Nacho is making progress. His foster believes he likely spent most—if not all—of his life outdoors, so adjusting to indoor living has been a big change for him. While he’s not exactly thrilled about the transition yet, living indoors is far safer for cats. Indoor cats are protected from cars, predators, disease, and other hazards, and keeping cats indoors also helps protect wildlife, particularly birds and small mammals that cats often hunt.

It’s also important to remember that behavior changes after neuter surgery can take time, especially for adult males. Many cats naturally become calmer and more relaxed, as hormones decrease over the weeks following surgery.

For now, Nacho is not available for adoption, and he may never be. Our experienced foster will continue working with him and will ultimately determine whether he could someday be a good candidate for a home of his own. If he reaches that point, we’ll be sure to let everyone know!

If not, Nacho already has a wonderful backup plan: he will simply remain with his foster and her resident cats for the rest of his life—safe, cared for, and with a full belly every day. And after everything he’s been through, that’s a pretty great outcome.
